Vilasa Kunja

Updated
Jan 14th 2007 - 19:25 GMT
Available at
http://www.vilasakunja.net
Opened
March 2005
Abstract
Sacred and peaceful corners for conversation are few and far in between on the Internet, the Wild West of communications. Vilasa Kunja is one such oasis, a community-centered arena of religious discussions, also hosting a questions & answers column on Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

Initially started as a closed forum for Sri Ananta Das Babaji Maharaja's disciples, its scope was broadened to accommodate the needs of the broader Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition after the closure of Gaudiya Discussions.
Md tasks
• Administration and moderation
• Questions and Answers column
• Occasional posting
Assistance
• Dave and Rasaraja are moderators. Not that there's much to moderate!

Tasks you can help with:

Status
Online and active. I don't presently have the time to try and actively generate discussions, but certainly don't mind participating when something worthwhile comes up.

Sadhana Manual

Updated
Jan 14th 2007 - 19:07 GMT
Available at
-
Opened
October 2005
Abstract
There are a fair number of contemporary or near-contemporary works, Manohara-bhajana-dipika perhaps the most popular of the lot, serving as sadhana reference manuals. There is, however, nothing that'd fit our purpose in English – and the corresponding Bengali works also tend to not be that precise, detailed or focused. Therefore, a definitive sadhana manual is a work in progress.
Md tasks
• Editing
• Research
• Translation
Assistance
• Editing and proofreading, once we get that far.

Gary has been helping with Sanskrit for some sections of the work.

Tasks you can help with:
    » None currently listed.
Status
A work in progress. Some sections have been shared here and there across the cyberspace.

Related news:

Priority
1  ·  Rate this project: Recommend priority.
Future
Date of completion is uncertain – when it's done it's done. It'll be freely available as an e-text, and ideally we'd also like to see someone sponsor the printing to be able to give out hard copies for free. Vaisnavas have explicitly emphasized to me that the work be made available without cost for the benefit of all.

Opened
July 2006 / Undeveloped
Abstract
A community portal aimed at guiding the public forward on the path of sadhana. The site will have a base section of informational and inspirational tips and tricks, a section for articles by other sadhakas, and a member portal where members of the public can register, keep their diaries and interact with others.

Opened
October 2001
Abstract
The first of the lot, Raganuga.Org has gone through many incarnations. The core of the site has always been introductory content on raganuga-bhakti. The site also once hosted the Raganuga Discussions forum that was to later become Gaudiya Discussions.
Md tasks
• Providing content
• Technical solutions
Assistance
Once the materials are re-written, I could use an editor and a proofreader for going over the texts.

Panjika Localization

Updated
Jan 14th 2007 - 18:31 GMT
Available at
http://www.vilasakunja.com/index.php?showforum=16
Opened
March 2003
Abstract
Raghunatha Das Gosvami's Vrata-nirnaya-panjika is the Vaisnava calendar of choice, widely popular in Vraja. Unfortunately, it is only localized for Vrindavan. The object of the project is automated production of localized calendars with traditional celebrations.
Md tasks
• Consulting the original calendar
• Software development
Assistance
People who know more about panjikas would be a great help as a matter of consultation.

Tasks you can help with:
    » None currently listed.
Status
I've been typing in the main events in the calendar and posting them to Vilasa Kunja under the Media Resources section. Beyond that, the project exists as a concept.

Priority

Future
I don't really know when I'd have the time to develop this, as the project would involve a great deal of work, and I remain uncertain over the demand. Those who are more tuned in to the day-to-day events of the calendar – tithis, sunrises and so forth – seem to fo the most part have access to the original and be able to work it out for themselves.

Krishna's World

Jan 14th 2007 - 18:10 GMT
Available at
http://www.gaudiya.info/
Opened
August 2006
Abstract
An entry-level introductory website on Gaudiya Vaisnavism and the worship of Krishna. Originally a translation of my parallel Finnish language site (www.krishnanmaailma.com).
Md tasks
• Editor
• Technical solutions
Assistance
• Help with website correspondence.
• If someone wants to translate from Finnish to English...

Tasks you can help with:
    » None currently listed.
Status
Online. Static. I don't currently unfortunately have the time to follow up on "entry level" contacts asking elementary questions.

Related news:
    » None currently listed.
Priority
0.6  ·  Rate this project: Recommend priority.
Future
I have a long list of ready questions and answers in Finnish that could (one day at a future era where time is abundantly available) be translated and added to the site. Otherwise, the site serves its purpose as it is. It would bundle well with the introductory kit.

Available at
http://www.padavali.com/

January 2007
Abstract
The Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition is immensely rich in its poetic heritage. The bulk of this treasure is hidden away in old Bengali books, yet to be discovered by the Western audience... Padavali Database is to become the collection of poetry over time.

Studying and relishing padavali poetry is close to my heart. Even if no-one ever visited the site, I would keep doing this for my own joy and relish.

Opened
January 2002
Abstract
My language studies work as a foundation for a great deal of projects: Bhasa.Net, Gaudiya Grantha Mandira and Padavali Database to name a few. Current focus on Bengali, followed by more systematic study of Sanskrit and Hindi in due course of time.
Md tasks
• Studying
• Making organized notes
Assistance
You are cordially invited to visit Bhasa.Net and participate in the discussions – you'll find me coming up with questions every so often.

    » None currently listed.
Status
Ongoing. Preparing some materials from my study notes for Bhasa.Net.

Related news:
    » None currently listed.
Priority

Until I know the language perfectly? Some notes, if I have the patience to keep collecting and organizing, may eventually mature into publications. Devotional study materials of Bengali are something I'd like to see developed.
